Short answer: Size a wax melter to your largest single batch, not your weekly total. Under about 50 lb per pour, a benchtop melter or a PRIMO 25 or PRIMO 50 is enough. From about 75 to 250 lb per batch, the PRIMO 75 to PRIMO 250 run on a standard 110-120 V outlet. For 350 lb to 1,226 lb per batch, the PRIMO 350 to PRIMO 1000 still run on 110-120 V. Above that, the PRIMO 1500 and larger use 220-240 V or higher.
Wax melter sizes by batch
Wax capacities and prices below are the published PRIMO figures on waxmelters.com (October 2026). Candle counts are approximate: an 8 oz container usually holds about 7 oz of wax by weight, so 1 lb of wax fills roughly 2 eight-ounce candles.
| Wax per batch | Approx. 8 oz candles per batch | Wax melter | Heating power | Voltage | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 25 lb | About 55 | PRIMO 25 (3.5 gal) | 300 W | 110-120 V | $1,395 |
| Up to 56 lb | About 125 | PRIMO 50 (7 gal) | 800 W | 110-120 V | $1,675 |
| Up to 77 lb | About 175 | PRIMO 75 (11 gal) | 800 W | 110-120 V | $1,875 |
| Up to 105 lb | About 240 | PRIMO 100 (15 gal) | 800 W | 110-120 V | $2,050 |
| Up to 169 lb | About 385 | PRIMO 150 (26 gal) | 800 W | 110-120 V | $2,295 |
| Up to 264 lb | About 600 | PRIMO 250 (33 gal) | 900 W | 110-120 V | $2,795 |
| Up to 367 lb | About 840 | PRIMO 350 (49 gal) | 1,200 W | 110-120 V | $3,495 |
| Up to 532 lb | About 1,215 | PRIMO 500 (76 gal) | 1,500 W | 110-120 V | $4,995 |
| Up to 770 lb | About 1,760 | PRIMO 750 (110 gal) | 1,800 W | 110-120 V | $6,395 |
| Up to 1,226 lb | About 2,800 | PRIMO 1000 (158 gal) | 1,800 W | 110-120 V | $7,995 |
| 1,675 lb and up | 3,800+ | PRIMO 1500 (216 gal) to PRIMO 60000 | 3,200 W and up | 220-240 V and up | From $9,750 |
How to choose
- Use your largest pour session. Weigh the wax you pour in one session and pick the melter that holds it without refilling. Add about 20 to 30 percent headroom if you are growing.
- Check your outlet. The PRIMO 25 through PRIMO 1000 run on standard 110-120 V. See the wax melter voltage guide.
- Plan the fill step. A heated valve suits hand pouring. For repeatable fills, add an AutoShot or a Pour X-Press melt-and-fill cart.
- Waterless vs water-jacketed. PRIMO melters are waterless, digitally controlled, double-wall insulated stainless tanks with a standard range up to 212°F / 100°C. WaxMelters rates PRIMO at 2 to 3X faster melting using about half the electricity compared with water-jacketed melting.
