Cheese Waxing for Every Size of Cheesemaker
Farmstead Cheese
Wax wheels from your own herd's milk in a compact 17 or 25 gal chamber that fits a small make room.
Small Creamery
Keep wax at a steady coating temperature through a full day of dipping, with a stand at a comfortable working height.
Artisan Cheesemaker
Run two colors or wax types side by side with a 2nd chamber, or have a custom tank built around a signature format.
Rectangular PRIMO engineering
Engineered for Wide and Shallow Cheese-Wax Processing
Cheese-wax tanks often require wide, shallow, or multi-chamber geometry. PRIMO heating is engineered for each rectangular vessel and heats evenly throughout, to support consistent wax temperature, repeatable coating, easier draining, and reduced material retention.
Information Used to Configure the System
- Largest cheese wheel, block, or product dimensions
- Number of products dipped at one time
- Wax type and maximum operating temperature
- Single- or multi-chamber coating process
- Screen, basket, stand, casters, lid, and drain requirements
- Washdown and surface-finish requirements
Production considerations
Built Around Coating Quality and Operator Workflow
Stable Wax Temperature
Support repeatable wax viscosity, coating thickness, and surface finish throughout production.
Part Handling
Configure screens, baskets, working height, drainage, and clearance around the largest cheese format.
Cleaning & Changeover
Match interior finish, valves, access, and washdown construction to the plant's sanitation procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best cheese wax dipping tank for a small creamery?
For most small creameries and farmstead cheese makers, the standard PRIMO Cheese Wax Dipping Tank. It comes in six inside sizes from 18" × 18" × 12" (about 17 gal / 120 lb of wax, $2,895) to 24" × 24" × 30" (about 75 gal / 525 lb, $6,195), with digital temperature control and waterless PRIMO heating. Most cheese makers choose 18" × 18" × 18" or 24" × 24" × 24".
What size cheese wax tank do I need?
Start with your largest wheel or block plus the dipping screen or basket, then the number of cheeses you dip at one time. The inside chamber must clear both with room to dip to the depth you need. If no standard size fits, choose Custom Size and WaxMelters will send a quote.
How hot does a cheese waxing tank run?
The standard range is up to 212°F / 100°C, digitally controlled. Some cheese makers prefer up to 300°F / 149°C, so a X-Treme configuration (up to 400°F / 204°C) is available. Follow your cheese wax supplier's recommended dipping temperature.
Can I run two wax colors or types at once?
Yes. Add a second chamber in any standard size, matching or different. It is priced the same as that size on its own, and you can ask for separate temperature control for each chamber in your quote details.
What options are available for an artisan cheesemaker?
A stainless steel stand (most cheese makers prefer a total height of 30 to 36"), industrial casters, a cheese wax dipping screen sized to your largest wheel or block, a washdown configuration, and 110 to 120 V or 220 to 240 V service. The standard tank usually ships within 7 days.

PRIMO Waterless Heating and Construction
Both are industrial heating methods, but they solve different requirements. WaxMelters recommends the construction that fits the material, installation, temperature, controls, and applicable safety classification.
PRIMO Waterless Systems
- Heating is engineered for the vessel geometry and material
- No jacket water level to maintain
- No mineral scale from jacket water
- Insulated construction and digital material-temperature control
- Preferred for most standard non-hazardous applications
Water-Jacketed Systems
- Heat transfers through an intermediate water or thermal-fluid jacket
- Jacket condition and fluid level require management
- Useful when a specification or process specifically requires this construction
- Available for appropriate hazardous-location or legacy requirements
- Application review is required before selection
Performance depends on tank size, material, starting temperature, batch load, operating setpoint, electrical service, and process conditions.
