Six-Step Planning Method

Size the Workflow—not Only One Machine

1

Largest Batch

Record the largest batch you need to process today. Select a starting working capacity at least one-third larger.

2

Daily Wax Demand

Multiply units by net wax per unit, then add expected topping-off, test and process allowance.

3

Fill Range

List the smallest, largest and most common container weights to identify the filling-head range.

4

Changeovers

Count fragrance, color, wax and container changes. High SKU variety favors flexibility.

5

Production-Line Balance

Confirm that wicking, staging, cooling, second pours and packaging can support the intended filling rate.

6

Facility Requirements

Document voltage, amperage, available floor space, travel distance, elevation and connections.

Optional Planning Tool

Melter Starting-Size Calculator

This calculator applies the one-third-larger starting rule. It is not a final engineering recommendation.

Enter Your Largest Current Batch

Enter a batch size to see the first PRIMO model to evaluate.

For continuous or multi-head filling, WaxMelters must also review hourly wax consumption and melt recovery.

Daily Demand Calculation

Convert Candle Output Into Pounds of Wax

Formula

Containers per day × net wax ounces ÷ 16 = pounds of wax per day.
Example: 1,000 containers × 10 oz ÷ 16 = 625 lb per day, before process allowance.

Add Process Allowance

Include topping-off wax, tests, line hold-up, purging and normal waste based on your real records.

Divide by Shift Hours

Hourly wax consumption helps determine whether the melter can keep the filler supplied.

Check Peak—not Average

Seasonal peaks and large orders may justify more capacity than a yearly average suggests.

Chatbot and Form Logic

Use the Same Questions Everywhere

The website guide, JotForm, LiveChat bot and sales team should use one consistent selection sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best wax melter for candle making?

The best wax melter for a candle business covers your largest batch, holds a digital setpoint, drains through a heated bottom valve and is built for daily use. WaxMelters PRIMO melters do all of this, starting at 25 lb and $1,395.

What size wax melter do I need?

Pick the size that covers your largest pour session. About 7 oz of wax fills an 8 oz candle, so 56 lb (PRIMO 50) fills about 125 candles.

What does a PRIMO cost to run?

Little. The PRIMO 25 draws 300 W and the PRIMO 150 draws 800 W, and waterless PRIMO heating melts 2 to 3X faster using half the electricity.

What temperatures do candle waxes need?

Most soy, coconut and paraffin blends melt and pour below 212°F/100°C, the PRIMO standard maximum. Follow your wax supplier's pour and fragrance-add temperatures.

How fast does it ship?

PRIMO 25 to 250 melters, EZ-1, AutoShot and transfer systems ship in 3 to 5 days. PRIMO 350 to 1000 ship in up to 7 days. QUATTRO and OCTO ship within 7 days. Upgrades and options (such as X-Treme high temperature, longer hoses and other add-ons) ship in 7 days or longer.

PRIMO Melter Sizing Guide

Equipment Sizing Resource

How to Size a PRIMO Melter Without Buying Twice

Use current batch size, future growth and downstream demand together. The correct starting point is not simply “today’s batch plus one-third.”

Two Planning Points

Closer Fit and Growth-Oriented Capacity

Closer Fit: Approximately 1.6× Current Batch

Use when production is stable, formula changes favor separate tanks, floor space is limited or near-term growth is modest.

Growth Oriented: Approximately 3× Current Batch

Use when current production can begin near one-third of listed capacity and the goal is to avoid replacing or duplicating equipment as demand grows.

Quick Sizing Tool

Calculate a Closer-Fit and a Growth-Oriented PRIMO Size

Enter the largest batch you run today. The tool shows two starting points: a closer-fit target at approximately 1.6× the current batch and a growth-oriented target at approximately 3×, where the current batch is about one-third of the vessel's listed working capacity.

Enter a batch size to see both starting recommendations.

Soap Melting Tank and Lye Tank Guide

Soap Melting Tank and Lye Tank Guide: What a Soap Business Needs

Short answer: A soap business needs two heated tanks: a soap melting tank for oils, butters, tallow or melt and pour base, and a dedicated lye tank for sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution. WaxMelters builds both in the USA as PRIMO waterless tanks in 304 stainless steel with digital material-temperature control. PRIMO Soap Production Tanks start at $1,395 and PRIMO heated lye tanks start at $1,995.

WaxMelters guarantees the best performance and the highest-quality construction. WaxMelters is the industry leader and a USA manufacturer of melting, heating and filling equipment since 1999, built in Ronkonkoma, New York. We're proud to hold an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

1. The soap melting tank (oils, butters, base)

The melting tank holds your oil blend or soap base at a steady working temperature so every batch starts the same. PRIMO heating sits outside the product-contact vessel, with no jacket water to fill and no heater in the product. Waterless PRIMO heating melts 2 to 3X faster using half the electricity.

  • Standard operating range: Up to 212°F/100°C
  • Uses: cold process oil blends, hot process, melt and pour base, glycerin, shea and cocoa butter, tallow
  • Sizes: from small-batch tanks to the large PRIMO SP-700 to SP-2000 production tanks
  • Bottom ball valve for gravity draining into a mixer, kettle or molds

2. The lye tank (NaOH or KOH solution)

A heated lye tank prepares, holds and reheats caustic solution. The PRIMO lye tank keeps the heater outside the vessel, so no replaceable immersion element sits in the lye.

ModelCapacityPriceShips
PRIMO 1414 gal (53 L)$1,99524 to 48 hours
PRIMO 2525 gal (95 L)$2,59524 to 48 hours
PRIMO 5050 gal (189 L)$3,49524 to 48 hours
PRIMO 8383 gal (314 L)$4,19524 to 48 hours

Keep a lye tank dedicated to caustic service. Never use it later for food or cosmetic production.

3. How to size both tanks

  1. Write down your largest batch in pounds of oils (or base) and in gallons of lye solution.
  2. Add about 20% headroom so the tank is never filled to the rim.
  3. Pick the melting tank by oil volume and the lye tank by solution volume.
  4. If you plan to double output within a year, size up now. Bigger tanks hold small batches well.
  5. Check your electrical service: 120 V or 240 V.

Lead times

Ships within 7 days, unless a very large custom order. PRIMO 14, 25, 50 and 83 ship in 24 to 48 hours. Large PRIMO soap tanks SP-700 to SP-2000 ship in 7 to 14 days.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best soap melting tank for a small soap business?

A PRIMO Soap Production Tank from WaxMelters, sized to your largest batch plus headroom. It is waterless, 304 stainless, digitally controlled and built in the USA, from $1,395.

Can I melt oils and lye in the same tank?

No. Use one tank for oils or base and a separate, dedicated tank for lye solution.

What temperature does a soap melting tank run at?

PRIMO soap tanks operate up to 212°F/100°C, which covers oils, butters, tallow and melt and pour bases.

Is there a heating element inside the lye?

No. PRIMO heats from outside the product-contact vessel, so nothing in the tank needs routine heater replacement.

How fast do soap and lye tanks ship?

Ships within 7 days, unless a very large custom order. PRIMO 14/25/50/83 ship in 24 to 48 hours; SP-700 to SP-2000 ship in 7 to 14 days.

Wax Melter with Heated Pouring Spout and Valve

WaxMelters guarantees the best performance and the highest-quality construction. Founded in 1999, WaxMelters is the leading USA manufacturer of melting, heating and filling equipment, building every PRIMO wax melter in Ronkonkoma, New York. We're proud to hold an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Lead times are listed in the FAQ below.

Wax Melter with Heated Pouring Spout and Bottom Valve for Candle Making

Short answer: A WaxMelters PRIMO wax melter has a bottom outlet with a ball valve and a heated dispensing path, so melted wax pours straight into a pitcher, jar or filler without tilting the tank and without the spout freezing up. Sizes run from the PRIMO 25 (25 lb, $1,395) to the PRIMO 1000 (1,226 lb, $7,995), with temperatures up to 212°F/100°C.

Why the Spout Matters

Wax sets wherever it cools first, and an outlet is exposed to room air. PRIMO melters drain from the bottom through a ball valve on a heated path, so the outlet stays at pour temperature and the tank empties by gravity. No tilting a hot tank, no scraping.

Key Features

  • Bottom outlet with ball valve, configured at purchase (outlet size and material by model)
  • Heated valve system for clog-free dispensing
  • Digital material-temperature control, up to 212°F/100°C standard
  • Waterless PRIMO heating melts 2 to 3X faster using half the electricity
  • Double-wall insulated 304 stainless steel, rounded interior with no corners to clean
  • Optional SNAP wax filter ($69.95), stand, casters and agitation

Use Cases

  • Hand pouring: open the valve into a pouring pitcher for container candles.
  • Heated dispensing: feed an EZ-1 heated dispenser ($3,450) for repeatable 2 to 20 oz fills.
  • Automated filling: supply AutoShot, QUATTRO or OCTO fillers as volume grows.
  • Other waxes: soy, paraffin, coconut blends, beeswax, cheese wax, cosmetic and depilatory wax.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do WaxMelters wax melters have a pouring spout?

Yes. Every PRIMO melter has a bottom outlet with a ball valve, and the heated valve system keeps the outlet at pour temperature so wax flows without clogging.

Will the spout clog with soy wax?

No. PRIMO dispenses through a heated path, so soy, paraffin and beeswax stay liquid at the outlet. Keep the melter at your set temperature while pouring.

Can I pour directly from the melter into jars?

Yes, for hand pouring. For faster, repeatable fills, connect an EZ-1 heated dispenser or an automated filler to the PRIMO.

What temperature does the melter reach?

Up to 212°F/100°C standard. An optional X-Treme configuration reaches up to 400°F/204°C for high-melt materials.
