Equipment Planning FAQ
Common Equipment Selection Questions
Where should I start if I do not know what equipment I need?
Start with the Production Efficiency Self-Assessment if you are
trying to identify the bottleneck. Then use Industrial Production
Planning to define the material, thermal duty, throughput,
downstream process and facility requirement before selecting equipment.
Should I choose a PRIMO system by tank size first?
No. First determine what the material and production process must do.
Standard PRIMO, Thermal Conditioning and Rapid-Cycle are organized
around different thermal priorities. Capacity should be selected
after the process family and production requirement are understood.
Can I size a melter from batch capacity alone?
Batch size is an important first screen, but final capacity can also
depend on usable reserve, practical headspace, batches per shift,
recovery time, material density, filling or transfer demand
and anticipated growth.
Why should filling and transfer be considered before final equipment selection?
Downstream equipment determines how quickly process-ready material
leaves the tank. A faster filling or transfer system can increase
required reserve and recovery capacity, so the melter and downstream
equipment should be planned as one production system.
Is lower heater wattage automatically more energy efficient?
No. Wattage describes electrical power draw, while total energy use
depends on power, operating time, heater cycling and heat loss.
Compare equivalent production using actual or modeled kWh,
process-ready time and usable output.
