Wax, Colors & Consumables For Wax Hands
Choose appropriate low-melt wax-hand paraffin, source it intelligently and build a consumables plan that does not depend on proprietary WaxMelters materials.
Use Wax Made for the Wax-Hand Process
PRIMO Wax Hands equipment does not require proprietary WaxMelters wax, but that does not mean every wax is interchangeable. Use a low-melt paraffin selected for wax-hand production and verify the current supplier specification before use.
No Proprietary Wax Required
Source it locally. Buy it when you need it. Your operation is not dependent on WaxMelters for routine wax purchases.
WaxMelters has historically recommended low-melt paraffin similar to IGI 4616 or IGI 1230A. Availability and formulations can change, so verify the current product data and confirm that the material is appropriate for your operating procedure.
Why Local Sourcing Often Makes Better Business Sense
Wax is dense, heavy and relatively inexpensive to buy, and costly to ship long distances. For that reason, WaxMelters generally recommends buying compatible wax and colors/dyes from a supplier near your operation whenever practical.
Lower Freight
You are not paying to repeatedly ship large quantities of paraffin from WaxMelters.
Faster Replenishment
A nearby supplier can reduce the time between recognizing low inventory and restocking.
Supplier Flexibility
You can review price, availability and lead time instead of being tied to one equipment manufacturer.
Better International Economics
Local sourcing can be especially valuable where international wax freight and customs would dwarf the material value.
Wax Selection Checklist
| Question | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Is this wax intended or suitable for wax-hand dipping? | Ordinary candle wax is not automatically appropriate for direct wax-hand use. |
| What is the published melt point / working behavior? | The operator needs material compatible with the equipment and established procedure. |
| Does the supplier provide current technical information? | Specifications can change by grade, lot and supplier. |
| Is the wax available consistently? | A business needs replenishment, not a one-time craft-store find. |
| Can you source it locally or regionally? | Freight often becomes a major part of wax cost. |
Colors and Dyes
Color is part of the entertainment value. Plan a manageable core palette. A smaller palette makes inventory, chamber assignment and cross-color management easier; additional colors can be introduced once you know what customers actually request.
Use colorants compatible with the wax system and process. Test every new colorant/wax combination before introducing it at a live event, because pigment load and additives can change appearance and handling.
How Much Wax Should You Start With?
Base this on chamber capacity, expected event volume, desired reserve inventory and local supplier lead time. You do not need to fill every chamber to its maximum merely because the capacity exists. The right starting inventory is enough to operate comfortably without tying unnecessary cash up in wax.
A useful planning rule is to separate working wax from reserve wax. Working wax is what you need in the machine; reserve wax is what protects you from a busy event or supplier delay.
Storage and Identification
- Keep wax and colorants in clean, labeled containers.
- Identify supplier, grade, purchase date and lot information when available.
- Keep colors physically separated to reduce accidental contamination.
- Do not mix unknown waxes simply because both are paraffin.
- Maintain enough reserve of your most important base wax to finish booked events.

Important Material Note
WaxMelters' current troubleshooting guidance warns not to use ordinary candle wax in a Wax Hands machine and sets a maximum operating temperature in the current manual. Always follow the current equipment instructions and the selected wax supplier's data. Do not substitute a material simply because it melts.
