Legacy Controller Retrofit
Older WaxMelters equipment may use controllers or electrical components that are no longer part of
the current equipment design. In some cases, an updated control package or retrofit may be the
appropriate service solution rather than replacing an obsolete controller with an identical component.
Identify the Equipment Before Ordering Parts
Do not purchase or install a controller, relay, sensor or other electrical component based only
on appearance or an old part number.
The customer must complete the applicable equipment-identification or troubleshooting process
so M&FE can confirm the equipment configuration and determine the appropriate current solution.
For warranty requests: no completed process = no warranty authorization.
Information Required
- Equipment model;
- Serial number or original order number, when available;
- Approximate purchase date;
- Clear photograph of the complete equipment;
- Clear photograph of the current controller and control area;
- Photograph of labels, wiring identification or other requested information;
- Supply voltage and phase; and
- Description of the reported condition.
Retrofit vs. Repair
Legacy equipment may not always support a like-for-like replacement of an obsolete controller.
Depending on the equipment configuration, M&FE may recommend a current controller,
control package, wiring update or other retrofit.
Do not improvise legacy electrical repairs.
Electrical work should be performed by qualified personnel using the approved components and
instructions applicable to the specific equipment.
Warranty Status of Legacy Equipment
Availability of manuals, replacement components or retrofit assistance does not mean that older
equipment remains under its original warranty. Warranty status and serviceability are separate matters.
Legacy retrofit parts, labor and technical assistance are normally billable unless M&FE expressly
determines that a specific condition is covered by an applicable warranty.
